On their wedding day
Jimmy and Lorina Ortega, of Belen, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Aug. 1.
The couple was married 50 years ago in 1970 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé.
Jimmy retired in 2002 after 30 years of employment with Qwest telephone company. He graduated high school in La Joya, and owned and ran La Casita bar in Veguita for 18 years.
Lorina is a stay-at-home wife and mother. She graduated from Los Lunas High School.
The couple, who are parishioners at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, have three children, including Michelle Lovato and spouse, PJ Lovato, of Mountainair; Suzanne Marquez and fiancé, Brandon Bibiano, of Belen; and Dianah Ortega and fiancé, Antonio Aragon, of Los Lunas.
They have 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Ortegas plan to wait until after the pandemic to celebrate their anniversary with family and friends at a later date.
