Merlinda C. Perea

1931-2018

obitPerea,Merlinda 1 COL.jpg

Merlinda C. Perea

Merlinda C. Perea, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years old, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, where she enjoyed being a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and assisting others with taking the Holy Eucharist to the homebound when she was still able to do so.

Merlinda was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Felis Chavez; sister, Armida Otero (Flavio); brothers, Edwin, Elmer, Wences (Virginia) and Eddie; brothers-in-law, Raymond, Charlie, and Orlando; granddaughter, Roberta Garcia; and most recently, her beloved husband, Joe C. Perea, who she missed dearly.

She is survived by her children, David E. Perea (Maria), Jimmy, Patricia Garcia (Richard) and Carol; grandchildren, David J., Julie, Jason and Jarod; great- grandchildren, Carlos, Nathaniel, Alyna, Serena, David C., Logan, Mariah and Andres; sisters, Oralia, Clarita, Bernie (Paul), Mabel, Reina (Willie) and Laura (Marco); and many loving nieces and nephews.

Merlinda came from a very tight-knit family, and I am sure she will be missed at their monthly gatherings for the birthday celebrations that they still have every month. Even towards the end, she always tried to make it to all events that she was invited to.

Merlinda was a sport. She was also known for her good cooking. If you were lucky enough to get invited to her Good Friday meals, I don’t think you would ever forget them. She loved making banana cookies and taking them to people and everyone loved her pastelitos.

All services will take place on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, beginning with a public viewing at 9 a.m., a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Valencia Catholic Cemetary.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, David J. Jason, Jarod, Carlos, Nathaniel and David C. Honorary pallbearers will be Liz and Ronnie Otero.
