Ruth L. Auge

Ruth L. Auge, age 97, a resident of Belen, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, after a short illness.

She was born in Hale County, Texas, and moved to Elida, N.M., where she began her teaching career. Ruth later moved to Los Lunas to become a home economics teacher. Her next move was to Belen, where she taught home economics at Belen Junior High until her retirement. Ruth was most proud of her 40 years of teaching.

After her retirement, Ruth and her husband, Lee, travelled the world extensively, visiting all continents except Antarctica. Most of all, they enjoyed playing golf together wherever they could, especially in Ruidoso and in Phoenix; she even scored a hole in one.

Ruth’s life revolved around her family and the family business, Auge Sales & Service. She was often seen in the showroom at Auge’s, greeting customers and visiting with old and new friends. Many friends would leave with a smile and a tatted bracelet.

Ruth was a charter member of the Belen Methodist Church in 1947, where she faithfully attended. She was also a member of the Belen Historical Society, Chuckwagon Cowbells and Stitcher’s Club.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Lee Auge, in 2015; and brothers, Sydney and Travis Lutrick.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline Stone, of Abernathy Texas; sons, Robert and wife, Nelda, of Belen, and Ed and wife, Denese, of Belen; grandchildren, Brian (Cathy), of Spencer, N.Y., Tim (Susan), of Los Lunas, Jeremy, of Los Lunas, Carrie Trueba (Kenny), of Albuquerque, David (Camilla), of Albuquerque, and Melissa Auge (Abraham), of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, who were dearly loved by Ruth, Dylan and Callie Auge, of New York, Jared and Kylie Trueba, of Albuquerque, Hunter and Alessandra Auge, of Albuquerque, and Kory Auge, of Los Lunas; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Chris Auge. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who she loved to visit with.

Cremation has taken place. All services will be held at Belen United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 3. A visitation will begin at 11 a.m., with a memorial service to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the Belen United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.

Susan “Susie” Chavez

Susan “Susie” Chavez, age 76, a lifelong resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.

She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Susie was dedicated to the care of her only living brother, George Chavez.

Susie is preceded in death by her mother, Adela Chavez; and father, Fermin Chavez; brothers, Luciano Chavez, Fred Chavez, Guillermo Chavez and Adam Chavez; sisters, Lucy Guerrera, Helen Mitchener, Lena Muth and Rita Romero; and aunt, Stella Fuentes.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret Gallegos, of Albuquerque; and one brother, George Chavez, of Belen. Susie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday, Aug. 1. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Margaret Jean Fought

Margaret Jean Fought

Margaret Jean Fought, age 68, a resident of Los Chavez, passed away on July 23, 2019.

She was born and raised in the Muleshoe, Texas, area. During her early years, she was a member of the Girl Scouts and played the piano for several churches in the area. The jobs she had included beautician, CNA, Nurse Finders of Albuquerque and manager of Adelante’s Adult Day Care Program.

Margaret was the loving mother of four boys, numerous grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She enjoyed racquetball, music and dancing. Margaret lived with multiple myeloma for more than 15 years.

Most of all, she loved her family and supported them throughout her life. They are her legacy.

She is preceded in death by her father, George Haskins Jr.; her mother, Billie Haskins; and her son, Jordan Fought.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Christopher Caine, Kyle Allen and Eric Michael Fought; her spouse of 26 years, Phillip Padilla; daughter, Angela Borgel; granddaughters, Zo’e Fought, Bailey Fought, Madison Holcombe, Lena Fought, Lorin Fought, Myya Fought, Lainy Fought, Jaylin Fought, TJ Padilla and Deborah Padilla; grandsons, Skyler Holcombe, Caleb Fought and Kyson Fought; brother, Jerry Don Haskins; two great-grandchilden, Victoria Holcombe and Psylo Iglesias.

The family would like to thank the UNM Hospital medical staff, oncology department for their care and support through Margaret’s battle with multiple myeloma. We would also like to thank the numerous friends, colleagues and associates who shared her with us.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, at First Baptist Church in Los Chavez, beginning with a visitation at 10:30 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Leo Gabaldon

Leo Gabaldon, age 64, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Leo loved detailing his cars and spending time at the casino. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his many friends and family. Leo worked for the state of New Mexico for 25 years until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwardo Gabaldon and Leandra Silva; baby sister, Dolores Gabaldon; brothers, Edward Jr., Nestor, Ruben, Lolo, Donicio, Jerry, Ben, Clarence and Bernard.

Leo is survived by his daughter, Angela; sisters, Adela, (Adrain) Gonzales, Judy (John) Barba and Gloria (Richard) Sanchez; brother, Charles Barham (Cindy); and friend, Brandy. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Edith Pattillo Jackson

Edith Pattillo Jackson, age 92, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019.

She was born in Cameron, Texas, on April 2, 1927. Along with being a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edith was as an accomplished watercolor artist, seamstress and golfer, and was an active member of First Methodist Church of Belen.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, A.O. “Cy” Jackson in 2010; parents, Oscar and Mabel Pattillo; sister, Bonnel Vaculin; and an infant son.

Edith is survived by her children, Linda DeMartino (Lee), of Greenville, S.C., Nancy White (Norm), of Albuquerque, Andrew Jackson (Michelle), of Ogden, Utah; grandchildren, Cliff DeMartino (Cindy), David DeMartino, Amanda Haas (Johnathan), Tyler Cameron (Trista), Johnathan Jackson and Emily Jackson; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Alora, Haliyah, Jett and Mavis.

Services will be scheduled at a later date.
