Los Lunas A small airplane was forced to land on Interstate 25 on Saturday morning, which temporarily blocked traffic. State Police Lt. Eric Garcia said the yet unidentified man took off from the Mid-Valley Air Park in Los Chavez, and radioed to the tower shortly after saying that he was experiencing electrical problems and would have to land. The man used a stretch of Interstate 25 north of Los Lunas as a makeshift landing strip on the southbound lanes. Garcia said the man was “test flying a test plane” at the time of the landing. He said the man landed, and coasted the plane to the shoulder of the interstate. Traffic was blocked for a short time. Garcia said the man sustained injuries in the landing, and was treated and released at the scene. He said the cause of the plane’s problems is not known, and state police forwarded their information on to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Bureau for further investigation. The plane has been returned to the Mid-Valley Air Park in Los Chavez. |
