David Caswell Died 2010 David Caswell, 45, of Los Lunas, died on Saturday, Jan. 23. David was preceded in death by his father, Harold Caswell, in 1994. He is survived by his mother Alice Caswell of Milan, N.M.; two sons, Stuart and Adam Caswell of Amarillo, Texas; brothers Spencer Powell and his wife, Karla; Kyle Caswell and his wife, Diana, Robert Caswell and his wife, Carole, and sister Memory Cabera and numerous nieces and nephews. John Cope 1965-2010 John Cope, age 44, one of God’s special angels, passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, at home in Jarales, surrounded by his loving, extended family. John was originally from Alta Vista, Va., but lived most of his life in New Mexico. John first resided at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School. In 1993, he moved to Jarales, where he spent the last 17 years of his life with his sister, Elizabeth Cope, and their foster family. John loved spending time with his beloved sister Lizzy and his extended family. John loved music and would stomp his feet and want to dance. He enjoyed camping, scrap booking and going to the zoo. John enjoyed having family and friends over for barbecues and spending the day in the back yard. He also enjoyed going to the Belen Senior Center to hear his papa sing and listen to the music of Los Alegres de Belen. John also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Killer, who was his constant companion for the last seven years. John was preceded in death by his biological mother, Virginia Cope. He is survived by his biological father, Frank Cope, and two half brothers, Keith and Jimmy, all of Virginia. John is also survived by his beloved sister, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Cope, with whom he shared a home together for the last 17 years with their extended foster family; parents, Judy and Juan Gonzales; sisters, Barbara Mazon and spouse, Robert, Valerie Gonzales and spouse, John Lucero, Leevanna Mascarena, Ruby Mascarena, Cynthia Aragon and spouse, Paul, Stephanie Mascarena, Angela Carrasco, Sophia Mascarena, Kim Montoya and Lashara Gaede; brother, Jonathan Mascarena; grandparents Tino and Betty Mascarena and Ramon and Celia Gonzales; great grandmother, Lee Vanna Hodge; nephews, Joseph and Nathan Baldonado, Michael and Robert Mascarena, Junior Carrasco and Dermarr Lucero and nieces, Emily Aragon, Makayla Soliz, Alysha Carrasco and Melanie Comacho. John is also survived by many aunts, uncles and loving friends, including his team from The New Beginnings and friends forever. A visitation will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the San Isidro Catholic Church in Pueblitos, followed by a Rosary at 6 p.m. A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at the First Assembly of God in Belen, located on Highway 314. Ninfa Gabaldon 1924-2010 Ninfa Gabaldon, age 85, a resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Ninfa was a foster grandmother for the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School. She was a widow for 42 years. Ninfa loved spending time in her garden, and liked going to the casinos. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ninfa will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fermin and Maria Louisa Salas; husband, Esequiel Gabaldon; daughter, Rody Benavidez; son, Fermin Gabaldon; sister, Lugarda Baca, and brother, Joe Salas. Ninfa is survived by her son, Jerry Gabaldon; daughters, Erlinda Jojola and Ruby Landavazo and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Brian, Karen, Daryl, Zeke, Renee, Christina, Eric and Angelo; 17 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Salas and brother-in-law, Fermin Baca and wife, Lena. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Lorenzo V. Mirabal 1940-2010 Lorenzo V. Mirabal, 69, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Friday, Jan. 22. He was born in San Mateo, N.M. Lorenzo was devoted to his family, he always thought of others, and was a happy, go lucky person, who always had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Pablita Mirabal, and a sister Maria Garcia. Lorenzo is survived by his siblings; Larry Mirabal and his wife, Consuelo, of Moriarty, Phyllis Saiz of Los Lunas, Monico Mirabal and his wife, Clara, of Albuquerque, Mike Mirabal and his wife, Barbara, of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., Joe Aguirre and his wife, Sarah, of Moriarty, and Gloria Aguirre. He is also survived by his caregivers Mary Mestas and Michelle Chavez of Los Lunas, and numerous nieces and nephews. All services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas on Friday, Jan. 29. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. with Father Doug Mitchell officiating. Melissa Olson 1969-2010 Melissa Olson, age 40, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away from a brief bout with cancer on Sunday, Jan. 24. Melissa was a very caring individual who was sure to go out of her way to always take care of others. Melissa enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with friends and her beloved cat, Shadow, and dog, Smoky, and listening to her music. Melissa is survived by her mother Marjorie Olson, brother Craig Olson, stepbrother Michael Dulus and son Joshua Olson. Melissa was also surrounded by many great friends who often helped her in her time of need. In lieu of any flowers, the family has asked that friends and family consider donating to a favorite local animal shelter called Almost Home New Mexico. Marie H. Schauer 1923-2010 A viewing will be held for Marie H. Schauer, 86, a 20 year resident of Rio Communities, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at Romero Funeral Home Chapel. A service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Born in Bayonne, N.J., on Sept. 16, 1923, Marie and her husband, Carl, moved to Rio Communities in 1988 from Cranford, N.J. She passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Anna Kaseman Hospice. She will be buried with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. She worked in the insurance business before her marriage in 1948. After her two daughters were older, she worked in the food service industry. Marie loved taking photographs and won several awards for her photographic talents. Marie and Carl traveled extensively in the 1990s in the U.S.A. and abroad. Marie was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Jessamine Chapter in Belen, the Luperto Garcia Chapter #29 of the Disabled American Veterans, the Breakfast Optimist Club in Belen and the First United Methodist Church in Belen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 2007; her brother, Walter Fuhrmann; her parents; and numerous other relatives. Marie is survived by her two daughters, Sandy Schauer and her husband, Bob Anderson, of Los Lunas; and Linda Luks and her husband, Andy, of Albuquerque; and a brother, Paul Fuhrmann and his wife, Betty, of Amarillo, Texas.
