Poet-essayist to speak at UNM-VC

Tomé The author of more than 36 books of poetry, essays and modern American haiku will be conducting a student writing workshop and public reading for the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus' Cultural Enrichment Series on Wednesday, March 10.

John Brandi will be signing his books during the public reception from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the student community center, following a workshop with students from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Brandi, a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Witter Bynner and Djerassi foundations, began publishing his work while he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador in the 1960s.

Brandi, a permanent resident of New Mexico since 1971, has been awarded state art council residences in Alaska, Arkansas, California, Montana, Nevada, New York and New Mexico. He has also journeyed to Southeast Asia, India, the Himalayas, Indonesia, Mexico and Cuba.
