Saturday, September 15, 2007 Motorcyclist in critical condition after Peralta hit-and-run accidentPeralta Police are hoping the public can help with identifying a driver who reportedly hit and severely injured a motorcyclist Wednesday evening and left the scene before officers arrived. Valencia County Sheriff's Sgt. Alan Montaño said deputies were called out to a serious accident on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Giant gas station in Peralta. The deputy said when officers arrived, only one of the two vehicles, a red Honda motorcycle, involved in the crash was still at the scene. "The motorcycle was traveling southbound on N.M. 47, and the truck was going northbound turning into the Giant," Montano said. "We don't know if the driver (of the truck) didn't see the motorcycle when they turned or the motorcyclist didn't see the truck when it was turning. "But witnesses say that the truck hit the motorcycle and left the scene before we got there," Montaño said. "We're thinking it will have damage on the passenger side." The motorcyclist, identified by police as 39-year-old Lisa Stevens of Bosque Farms, is listed in critical condition at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque suffering from severe head and pelvic injuries. "The witnesses say that the truck was seen going north on Highway 47 toward Bosque Farms, and that there were two males in the truck," Montaño said. "We don't know if they were adults or if they were juveniles." Witnesses described the truck as a newer model white Ford F-150 four-door with temporary tags and a brown or gold stripe on the bottom. Anyone with information about the accident or the whereabouts of the truck is asked to call the Valencia County Sheriff's Office at 866-2400.
