New season passes, senior discounts offered at Belen schools sporting events

Jackie Schlotfeldt News-Bulletin Staff Writer; jschlotfeldt@news-bulletin.com

Belen The Belen Board of Education unanimously approved an increase in admission prices for sporting events last week.

Athletic coordinator Jim Danner presented a proposal to the school board at a previous meeting suggesting an increase in the price of admission to games. In the proposal, season ticket prices to students and adults were also included, as well as a discount rate for senior citizens that hadn't been available to the district before.

Admission for adults is now $5, while students will be charged $3 with student identification. Season tickets will be available for fall and winter sports for $50 each season $30 for students. Seniors will pay $3 per event.

For Junior Varsity "C" teams and Belen Middle School teams, charges for adults were raised to $3, while student rates will remain at $1.

Danner said tickets would be available for sale from noon to 4 p.m. on game days for those wanting to bypass the long lines at the gates.

"Last year, we had people waiting in line at half time," Danner said. "The easiest way to avoid that is to purchase tickets in advance."

Individual tickets and season passes can be purchased in Danner's office at the Belen High School gymnasium. His office is located through the east door of the gym and is the first door on the left.

"I'm expecting a big crowd," Danner said of the upcoming season. "We have four home games, and I expect it to be like the old days - lots of students and lots of community members."

He said he believes it has been 10 years since there has been an admission price increase.
