Ross Dress For Less will soon occupy the vacant Staples space in Los Lunas.

LOS LUNAS—After sitting vacant for nearly two years, the old Staples building in Los Lunas, will soon be home to Ross Dress For Less.

Mike Mechenbier, the owner of the building and half of the shopping center property, said he was very happy to bring Ross to Los Lunas.

“I think it’ll bring a lot of synergy to that center,” Mechenbier said. “It’s just tough to find national credit to bring to any type of shopping center right now. It’s just the environment out there, so we were very pleased to have Ross come in.”

The News-Bulletin has made several attempts to speak with Ross officials but calls have not been returned.

The 22,000-square foot building is currently undergoing renovations and the store is slated to open in the first quarter of 2019.

“I think they’ll be a major attraction to the shopping center on this side of the river,” Mechenbier said. “As it continues to grow it will be pretty nice.”

Staples had been in the location for more than a decade but the corporation decided to close the Los Lunas location in 2016.
