A safety corridor on Manzano Expressway was recently dedicated to the late Valencia County Sheriff’s deputy Ryan Thomas, who was killed in a single-car crash while responding to a call for service in December 2016. Family and friends were on hand for the dedication, including his wife, Joyce, and children, Maximus, 3, and Alissa, 5. Within the safety corridor — which begins just east of N.M. 47 and the Belen river bridge and ends near South Rio del Oro Loop — all fines for traffic violations are doubled.
After the new traffic safety corridor was dedicated to Thomas, family and friends laid a wreath on the roadside descanso that marks the crash site. Among those at the roadside ceremony were, Maximus and Alissa, Thomas’ mother, Charlette Thomas, sister-in-law, Courtney Thomas, his nephew Ryan, 2, and Joyce.
