Shame on the governor

Editor:

This past legislative session, the Democrats, with the leadership of newly-elected Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, pushed several anti-gun bills, two of which passed.

In the aftermath, 29 of New Mexico’s 33 sheriffs as well as 28 counties and several cities and towns have come out in opposition to one of the two bills that passed, SB 8.

Petitions have been submitted twice to New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver to allow the decision to be placed on a ballot for the voters to either accept or reject and she rejected them both. Gov. Lujan Grisham and New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas have both said that the sheriffs have a duty to enforce laws that the state Legislature passes, even though the sheriffs are sticking to their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

I think it’s hypocritical of the governor and the attorney general to shame the sheriffs since they both have refused to enforce federal law regarding marijuana and illegal aliens.

The Pro-life movement is based on lies

Editor:

I am male, so the storm surrounding abortion, women’s rights, safe health care procedures and pseudo-Xian pro-life people has not required me to have an opinion or speak to any of the issues.

There are plenty of issues that I am adamant about. That said, I am very pro-choice and demand equal rights for all, and, in fact, repeat my own philosophical statements whenever they seem to apply.

“I have the same rights that you do, the same rights that I afford you. We each have only the collective rights given to all,” and, “Rights only exist when they apply to everyone. When only some people are accorded a so-called ‘right,’ then it is privilege and subjugation.”

But I decided that I need to speak up on the issue because I stumbled upon the so-called truth of the matter.

I am opposed to all religions, and the larger disease of magical thinking. But it turns out that the fundamentalist Xian claim that their non-existent godhead defines the life of a fetus from conception, or more recently, at the first heartbeat, is categorically not true.

The Judeo-Xian Bible clearly states that life begins when you take your first breath of air.

Genesis 2:7: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and [the] man became a living soul.”

Job 33:4: “The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.”

Ezekiel 37:5-6: “Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.”

I don’t have to believe any of this, nor do you. But when pseudo-Xians make claims based on the word of God, they had better be accurate when they do so. It is quite telling that after all these years of back-and-forth, I would stumble upon actual facts in the matter at this late date.

Other cited verses found in my research are just plain off the mark, and only a propagandist could twist the texts cited by the pro-life leaders, and re-quoted by their teeming mob of followers, into actually specifying the magic moment when life occurs.

So I am posting this factual ammunition for use by any pro-choice readers to fling in the face of these false pro-lifer misogynist hate-mongers — they won’t listen, of course, but the battle must be fought.

Another of my sayings that applies here is, “The use of force is proof of the absence of reason.”

Well-being is paramount

Editor:

Well, it’s 2019 in the USA and time to shove all females back in their pens. Republican lawmakers want to be in charge of female fates and abilities to raise their children.

Evidently, women and “others” have been taking too much of the quality-of-life pie and not paying anything for it. Those lawmakers, partnering with evangelicals, are not making enough money off the backs of the working poor and middle-class families, so they have spun up a new scheme to dis-empower women. They are enlisting everyone to jump on board by misapplying religious tenets to try and accomplish their plan.

Men are not God and God is not a man, so let’s remember that fact. Lawmakers who play God are counting on getting all of us focused on condemnation of women, so we will ignore their agenda and goals of conquer, control and acquisition of more assets by them.

These same people are falsely claiming that abortions are somehow ruining our nation even though legal abortions are at a 30-year low because of the availability of reliable contraceptives for all women. Thanks to the women’s movement from the 1880s through today, couples can now plan their families; they aren’t having 18 kids they can’t feed and mothers are living longer in order to care for the children they do have. And women aren’t dying from botched abortions.

For the few that don’t know, childbirth is not like pulling a tooth, women still die in childbirth. In the U.S., birthing a baby carries the risk of death 14 times greater than having a safe abortion. If Roe vs. Wade is reversed, abortions won’t stop, but deaths of girls and women who cannot obtain safe abortions will go up.

Remember that 25 percent of all females will be sexual assaulted by random men, boyfriends, husbands and family members in their lifetimes — some over and over.

A sad fact of human nature is that men instinctively want to control women. Rape and incest are always against a woman’s will — no little girl, young lady or grandmother ever learned to like being assaulted and none of them deserve it. It is neither the will of God nor a lesson for her.

As a direct result of men impregnating women, girls and women have suffered miscarriages, and have had spontaneous and induced abortions since time began. We can read several passages in the Christian and Jewish Bibles (See Kings, Hosea, Isaiah, Numbers and Exodus) about abuse of women, the loss of their pregnancies by violence, forced termination of a woman’s pregnancy by priests and kings, terminating an unwanted pregnancy using herbs, and of course who gets paid when a woman’s pregnancy is aborted by violence against her.

A fetus was property inside property then. A fine was paid to the husband by determination of the husband and the judges. Women and children are not property anymore even though some men might wish it. It would seem that in 2019, lawmakers might have us going backwards in time to the days before science, medical enlightenment and contraception. I’m not buying their fake hype.

Roe vs. Wade is settled law. Human nature cannot be legislated, but safety standards can. Women make the best decisions for themselves and no laws should be made to force us to do anything against our own well-being. Our children and partners need us to be healthy and happy, let’s remember that, too.
