All four VC teams advance in YAFL playoffs

News-Bulletin reports

All four of the Valencia County teams that reached the New Mexico Young America Football League playoffs won their first-round games on Saturday to advance to the semifinal round.

The Los Lunas Tiger Mighty Mites, the Valencia Jaguar Juniors, plus the Belen Pee Wee and Sophomore teams all reached this Sunday's semifinal round.

The semifinal games will all be played on Sunday, Oct. 19. Winners of the semifinals will compete in championship games during NM-YAFL's Superbowl Sunday at Wilson Stadium in Albuquerque on Oct. 26.

The Tiger Mighty Mites, the No. 1 seed in their division, won their matchup with Del Norte, 27-20, at Bullhead Park. The Tigers will host Volcano Vista on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Willie Chavez Field on the campus of Los Lunas High School.

It took the Valencia Juniors five overtimes to edge Sandia, 14-8, on Saturday at Bullhead. The Juniors are set to play in a semifinal game Sunday at 2 p.m.

Belen's Pee Wee team blanked Eldorado 28-0 at Bullhead on Saturday. The Eagles play at Milne Stadium on Sunday at 10 a.m. for a trip to the Superbowl.

The Belen Sophomores' 22-20 overtime win over Volcano Vista put the Eagles in the semis. The Sophomores play Sunday in the early game at Wilson on Sunday at 8 a.m.
