Laurence Paul Guggino Sr.
Feb. 18, 1940 - Nov. 19, 2025
Larry was the first child of Carmelo Alessandro Gioacchino “Jack” Guggino and Maria Asunta Menaldi-Guggino from Youngstown, Ohio.
His siblings are Rita Marie Guggino-Ware (Don, deceased), Paul Mario (Joy) and Marc Stephen (Chris).
On June 6, 1961, Larry and Patricia (Patty) Burke pledged lifetime vows at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Albuquerque, N.M. Their honor attendants were Thomas and Greta (Cunningham) Keleher.
After graduating from the University of New Mexico’s College of Pharmacy, Larry worked with his father-in-law, Ted Burke’s, at Burke’s Prescription Medical Arts Square in Albuquerque. The first addition to Larry and Patty’s family was Laurence Paul Guggino Jr. (Karen), followed by Patrick Burke Guggino and Jennifer Kathleen Guggino-Othart (Laurent).
More love came with seven grandchildren, Joshua Garrett, Mikaela Elizabeth and Brianna Nicole Guggino; Kaitlyn Lauren Othart and Meghan Kathleen Othart-Blaine (Samuel); Taylor Elizabeth Guggino-Broderick (Mike) and Shaun Patrick Guggino. The first great-grandchild, Harrison James Broderick, entered this world on Nov. 19, 2025, just as Larry left it.
In 1965, Larry purchased Los Lunas Pharmacy from Helen Lucas, and the family moved into the open arms of the Village. During the time Larry purchased the store, he also was employed as head pharmacist at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School. The whole family worked at the store where Larry was the pharmacist for more than 50 years.
With partners, Larry purchased Lobo Campus Pharmacy at Yale and Central in Albuquerque and worked the midnight shift. Quite a productive life!
Tradition and family were cornerstones for Larry. When the c.1790 Los Lentes San Antonio Chapel was in danger of demolition, he joined parishioners to protect this historical treasure. It stands today as San Clemente Los Lunas’ Mission.
Another important part of Larry’s life was family cook day. Each fall, everyone gathered to make pasta, Italian sausage and sauce.
To honor Larry’s life at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 16, 2026, there will be a Rosary at Immaculate Conception, Tomé. A Funeral Mass will follow.
Internment at the Los Lentes Cemetery, Los Lunas, is scheduled for a later date.
The Guggino family would like to thank Dr. Joseph R. Aragon for his long friendship and medical insight. We would also like to thank Yolanda Zamora, Los Lunas Roadrunner Hospice for his care and the Riverside Funeral Home in Los Lunas.
In lieu of flowers, Larry would appreciate a donation to St. Vincent de Paul, 960 Main St. N.E., Los Lunas, N.M., 87031.
