One files as write-in candidate
The number of candidates running for local elected offices increased by one after Tuesday’s deadline for write-in candidates came and went, bringing the total to 53.
Eloisa Tabet, 87, one of the incumbents for the University of New Mexico-Valencia Advisory Board, filed as a write-in candidate on Sept. 2.
She has held her position on the board since 2010. Tabet graduated from high school and business school, is a retired assistant cashier for Wells Fargo Bank and a former licensed real estate agent.
People from across Valencia County signed up to run for office for city councils, school boards and special districts for soil and water conservation and flood control on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
All the candidates who filed to run for office last week have been marked as “qualified” on the New Mexico Secretary of State’s candidate portal. They will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.
