Recount in county treasurer’s race doesn’t change outcome
The automatic recount for one Valencia County primary race is complete and the election night results stand.
When all the votes were counted for the Republican race for Valencia County Treasurer, incumbent Ronald Saiz and challenger Danielle Trujillo were within 27 votes of each other, with Saiz leading. That margin triggered an automatic recount of the results.
At the July 17 Valencia County Commission meeting, Valencia County Clerk Mike Milam announced the recount was complete and Saiz would be the candidate on the ballot for the General Election.
“They got the same numbers as on election night,” Milam said. “There was also an audit check of the precincts and everything matched up.”
Saiz received 1,415 votes to Trujillo’s 1,388. Republican Leyda Martinez Hahn was also on the primary ballot but wasn’t part of the recount.
Saiz will run against Democrat Michelle Tafoya in November.
