1. What in your experience, education, etc., makes you qualified for this position?

“Faculty member (adjunct and/or visiting lecturer) from 2001 to 2025 teaching physical geology, historical geology, physical science, environmental science and life science for teachers at the UNM Valencia campus. I know the student population, the facilities, the faculty, staff, the successes and challenges the campus faces. BS and MS Geology.”

2. How do you plan to involve the community in the decision-making process of the board?

“Perhaps increasing use of social media to explain the board’s role in campus decisions and to solicit serious input from the community. Explain how local input can make a difference.”

3. What can the advisory board do to help increase the amount of programs and degrees offered at the campus?

“Advocating the continued development of certificate programs and associate degrees needed now and the next five years by local employers while maintaining a strong curriculum of the basics in math, science and language. The elephant in the room is AI and the need to offer critical thinking skills to keep ahead of this ‘game changer’ for our students and society.”

Have you ever filed for bankruptcy and if so, explain the circumstances? “I had to file for bankruptcy in 1998 after a divorce.”

Have you ever been arrested, charged with or convicted of drunken driving, any misdemeanor or any felony offenses in New Mexico or any other state? If so, explain. “Never been arrested or charged with any offense.”

1. What in your experience, education, etc., makes you qualified for this position?

“I am qualified for this position with my work for many years on the campus. I have served in this position in the past and am currently serving as an appointed member of the board.”

2. How do you plan to involve the community in the decision-making process of the board?

“I plan to involve the community in the decision-making process by talking to individuals where ever I am in the community. I will ask opinions where there are community members present.”

3. What can the advisory board do to help increase the amount of programs and degrees offered at the campus?

“I plan to talk to students and faculty members and listen carefully to their thoughts about what might be good program additions. I cannot make promises but will bring the ideas to the board members to consider.”

1. What in your experience, education, etc., makes you qualified for this position?

“I have been a member of the UNM-Valencia Advisory Board since 2010. I’ve been a liaison to the UNM-Valencia Development Board, responsible for obtaining funding for student scholarships.”

2. How do you plan to involve the community in the decision-making process of the board?

“Our decision-making authority is limited as an advisory entity that is reserved for the UNM Main Campus. However, as a community, I’d like to seek to improve connections across the entire county. If there is an issue, I’d like to be aware.”

3. What can the advisory board do to help increase the amount of programs and degrees offered at the campus?

“Continue to align with our secondary schools. Our dual credit programs have been a major success.”
