TOME — A resignation has left a vacancy on the advisory board for Valencia County’s higher education body.
In an email dated Aug. 14, Joleen Chavez, the at-large member of the University of New Mexico-Valencia campus Advisory Board, tendered her resignation.
“With great sadness and regret, I am writing to you today to inform you of my immediate resignation from the UNM-VC Advisory Board. With a busy work, school, and family schedule, I am unable to fulfill my obligation to serve UNM in the capacity necessary to make an impact,” Chavez wrote in the email to the board and UNM-Valencia Chancellor Sam Dosumu.
“I am fully confident that you will find someone who can serve you well. Each of you has been wonderful to work with, and I am grateful for the opportunity to know every single one of you. I wish you all well. God bless you all.”
The at-large position is held by someone living anywhere in Valencia County. Chavez was elected to the position in 2021. The person appointed to the vacancy could run to retain the position in the upcoming 2025 election.
The board is accepting letters of interest until Friday Dec. 13. If interested in serving in the position, request an application by sending an email to wbadertscher@unm.edu.
