How do you achieve work-life balance?

Jennifer Hise-Trujillo

“This has been tough. Look for focus, faith and the patience of my family. Your work ethic matters. Investment of how to spend your time — and it can vary depending on the season. Clear communication — so plans are understood and followed through. Know that there will be situations that will only come around once and make them priceless.”

What advice do you have for aspiring women looking to advance their careers?

“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Be Brave (Deuteronomy 31:8). Be willing to go after your passion even if you do not have every criteria — you will continue to learn and grow. Widen your horizons — you have one life; live it as fully as possible. Attitude is critical — your perspective will direct your outcome. Be a problem solver, not a problem maker. You are a product of your choices.”

What is the biggest challenge and most rewarding aspect of your profession?

“People. How we collaborate, overcome obstacles, envision, engage, work together to bring quality products to build and improve our society.”

Have you had any life-changing experiences that led you to where you are today?

“Yes — the opportunity to be involved with our third-generation family business, CEMCO Inc. (more than 60 years in business) that evolved and became part of Superior Industries. Introduction and growing up in the mining and aggregate industry that I fell in love with as it is one of the backbone industries of the USA. Provided the opportunity to network, mature and meet some of the most supportive friends and mentors of my life.”

If you could say one thing to your younger self or give them one piece of advice what would it be?

“Pick your battles wisely. Take care of your skin, wear good, supportive shoes. Invest early. It’s not personal — let them. Life takes time, gain experience and always continue to learn and improve. The best way to distinguish yourself at work is to show up early, stay to get the job done and look/volunteer for tasks with a good attitude.”

What is the best advice you received and from whom?

“Know your worth. You are who and what you spend your time with. (This is from several strong women in my life — they are my inner circle.)”
