Los Lunas dominate in-county softball showdown
LOS LUNAS — County softball rivals Los Lunas (4-2) and Valencia (2-4) met Tuesday at LLHS, with the Tigers winning 15-0 on the strength of a 10 run second inning.
Kellyn Lucero and Kelsie De Graaf each drove in four runs. LLHS plays the host school to open a tournament Thursday in Artesia, while VHS is at the Linda Crabtree tournament in Farmington.
The Jaguars will meet Kirtland Central in the first round. Belen, with a 5-7 record, is back in action Saturday, hosting Mayfield in a doubleheader.
Baseball
Seventh-seeded Los Lunas (5-5) defeated No. 10 Atrisco Heritage Academy 13-3 on the road Tuesday in the first round of the Albuquerque Metro Baseball Tournament. Jasiah Byers had a home run and three runs batted in.
The Tigers were scheduled to play Wednesday in the tournament against No. 2 Rio Rancho.
On Tuesday, Belen (4-5) swept visiting Gallup (3-6) 12-1 and 10-3. Wednesday, the Eagles were set to play Santa Fe on the road.
Valencia (5-4) was scheduled to play Wednesday at Moriarty. All of Wednesday’s games were past the News-Bulletin print deadline.
