What advice do you have for aspiring women looking to advance their careers?

“Network: Find organizations within your community that align with your values and goals and actively participate. Volunteer. Search for a mentor and guidance. Say “yes” to the projects that interest you and keep focused on your goals. You can always pivot … throughout your life, you will need to.”

What is the biggest challenge and most rewarding aspect of your profession?

“My greatest challenge is explaining the cost of insurance and the factors influencing that cost, especially to non-profits and small businesses. I understand their limited resources and genuine concern to provide the best coverage for their employees. My greatest reward is in providing funding options and benefit solutions.”

What made you decide to pursue the career path you are currently on?

“My insurance career came by fate. My work requires effective communication skills and financial knowledge, and I genuinely love people and numbers. Founded in 1908, Presbyterian’s value of community aligns with mine. Presbyterian also offered a true work/life balance which was necessary during my husband’s multiple military deployments.”

If you could say one thing to your younger self or give them one piece of advice, what would it be?

“Practice gratitude daily. Remember that it is a bad moment, not a bad day. Time for you is not selfish, it is necessary for your own peace. Recover and move forward. Breathe. Live in the moment, it goes by so fast.”

What motivates your community involvement and being an active presence in the community?

“I was raised to be considerate of others and get involved. Participating in 4-H and FFA growing up, you learn that everyone can make a difference, no matter how small the contribution is. My husband and I continue to support our community. The need for community participation is immense.”

How do you define success in life?

“Doing what brings you joy, whether you get paid for it or not. The unconditional love of a supportive partner. Seeing your child healthy and happy. Making an impact on others. Standing room only at your funeral. That is a good life!”
