Members of the Valencia County Amateur Radio Association held their annual field day June 22-23, which is part of an annual contest that amateur radio enthusiasts all across North America participate in. VCARA opened the event up to the public as well for anyone interested in learning more about HAM radio.

Two VCARA members, pictured above, utilize HAM radios at the group’s clubhouse in Los Lunas during the field day event. Members score points for each contact they make to fellow HAM radio operators during the duration of the contest.

Four-legged friends, pictured above, were also welcome to participate in the field day fun as VCARA member Nick Carter brought his dog, Huey, along.

Huey was dressed for the occasion, boasting a GPS tracking transmitter on his collar that lets Carter track his location. Huey is also trained to come back to Carter when he hears a beep from his collar.
