RIO COMMUNITIES—The city of Rio Communities finds itself once again without a municipal judge.

Judge Victor L. Williams — who was appointed to the vacancy on the bench and sworn in in July 2025 — was just elected to the position in November 2025.

In his Feb. 10 letter of resignation to the mayor and council, Williams writes his decision was not made lightly.

“After careful reflection and consideration of my current family circumstances, I’ve concluded that my responsibilities to my wife and family must take precedence at this time,” Williams wrote. “Family is of the utmost importance to me, and it is necessary that I devote my full attention to them during this period.”

Williams called serving the city as judge “an honor and a privilege,” saying he was “deeply grateful for the confidence placed in my by the residents of the city ...”

His resignation was effective Feb. 5, according to the letter.

Williams is the third judge to resign from the Rio Communities bench since February 2024, following Holly Noelle Chavez and Helen Smith.

Anyone interested in the position can submit a resume to City Hall, 360 Rio Communities Blvd.
