A Belen woman was killed in a head-on crash west of Mountainair on Thursday, April 1, according to New Mexico State Police.

Martina Pulido-Baca, 65, died in the crash that happened on U.S. 60, near milepost 187, around 12:30 p.m., the agency said in a news release.

Based on the initial investigation, a minivan driven by Pulido-Baca was going east on U.S. 60 when, for reasons unknown, it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and collided head-on into a passenger car driven by a 70-year-old man from Mountainair.

Pulido-Baca died at the scene. The other driver and a passenger, a 67-year old woman also of Mountainair, sustained unknown injuries, police said.

Both were taken to a hospital in Albuquerque.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seat belts appear to have been used properly, police said.
