Ditchbank Diaries

For peace & health

Published Modified

For the last 13 years, Belen resident, Robert Torres, has covered a great deal of ground along the ditchbanks in town. He heads out early five days a week and walks at least three miles every morning, no matter the weather.

Robert even braves the snow on New Mexico’s rare, frigid days. He said he first started walking because his doctor ordered it, but it has become a peaceful part of his routine.

Robert, who grew up in Magdalena, has made Belen home for the last three decades with his wife and two sons. One of his wife’s prized possessions is a beautiful peacock feather Robert found on one of his walks. He recommends not walking the ditchbank when it’s too dark out.
