RIO COMMUNITIES — New rooftops are coming to the city of Rio Communities.

Jubilee Homes owner and staff and officials from the city of Rio Communities broke ground on a two-phase residential development near Nancy Lopez and Lee Trevino boulevards, southeast of the Tierra del Sol Golf Club.

The Vista del Monte subdivision will be built in two phases, the first of which will build 27 homes ranging from 1,500 to 2,600 square feet, with a starting price of $338,000. Phase II of the project will add 40 homes.

During the Oct. 11 ground-breaking ceremony, Ralph Mims, the owner of Palmetto, LLC, who has been on contract with the city of Rio Communities as its economic developer for the past 2 1/2 years, said the development would be a “Boon to the community that will hopefully attract more home builders.”

Nick Blea, owner of Jubilee Los Lunas, said the last developed lot in the active adult community in the village of Los Lunas had recently sold.

“The question has been asked, ‘Why do this development?’” Blea said. “Well there are a lot of people who need housing.”

He pointed out that nearby manufacturers, such as Arcosa Wind Towers, were adding employees who needed places to live.

The new homes will each have a two-car garage, gourmet kitchens, outdoor living spaces and a landscaped front yard.

“We are partnering with Tierra del Sol. (The Rio Communities) development won’t have a clubhouse like we do at Los Lunas, so we are offering a three-year, unlimited use golf membership at Tierra del Sol Golf Club,” Blea announced.

He said the southern side of the development will be delineated with a block wall soon, and as lots are developed, they will be separated from each other with block walls as well. There are plans to gate the new community, as well as include solar array on the sites as well as charging ports for electric vehicles.

“We originally were going to build two or three model homes, but things are rather uncertain,” Blea said. “We are going to start slow and, as lots are sold, we will start building. This is a different dynamic than in Albuquerque.”

Blea said Jubilee owns an additional 79 lots “a rocks throw form the clubhouse” at the golf course for future housing development.

Rio Communities Mayor Josh Ramsell said the development was an exciting opportunity for the city.

“Young families are the future of our community,” Ramsell said. “The commitment you’re making is spectacular.”

Jubilee Homes first project in Los Lunas has received numerous national awards, including being named in the Top 100 places to live in the United States, the Top 100 planned communities in the United States, Top 50 best places to retire in the United States, Marketing and Community awards by the National Association of Home Builders and more.
