DWI patrols
New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during January 2026.

Free after-school tutoring at the Moose
The La Merced Moose Lodge is offering free after-school tutoring for students, K-12, from 3:30-5 p.m. on Fridays, at the lodge, 306 Rio Communities Blvd. Certified teachers will provide help in math, reading, science and social studies. MLK celebration
The 33rd annual candlelight vigil, celebration and remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., hosted by the Belen Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Commission, will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at the Belen Public Library, 333 Becker Ave., in Belen.

The system will be used to keep you informed of local events that may immediately impact your safety.
St. Philip’s food pantry in Rio Communities
St. Philip’s Food Pantry, 113 La Luna Place, Rio Communities, is open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., every Thursday. Boxes of groceries can be picked up for needy households. Let them know of any home-bound seniors without transportation by calling 505-864-7954.
Textile Thursday
Join Valencia Community Action Network from 4-8 p.m. every Thursday for Textile Thursday at the Meadow Lake Community Center and unwind with yarn. World’s Largest Matanza
The annual Hispano Chamber of Valencia County’s “World’s Largest Matanza” will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at Eagle Park, 305 Eagle Lane, in Belen. The annual event includes live music, team matanza competition, public food competition, vendors and a beer garden. The public is welcome to enjoy food from team competitors throughout the day.
