Passion Play troupe

The Companions of Jesus of NM, Valencia County volunteers invite all to join the troupe to “Bring Scripture to Life” by participating in this year’s Passion Play, “Death of the Messiah.” They need both men and women of all ages and talents. They seek those interested in acting, stage assistance, costumes and technical activities. Spring semester bus service to UNM-Valencia Campus

Rio Metro is offering free bus service to the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus for the spring semester. The Route 209 bus will run Monday through Thursday between the Los Lunas Rail Runner Station and the UNM-Valencia campus from Jan. 20 to May 14, 2026. This special spring schedule offers staff and students a convenient way to get to campus.

History presentation

A presentation by UNM archaeologist, Michael Bletzer, for the Isleta Pueblo on “History of Pueblo Culture: Rivers to mountains: Pottery Mound and the southern Tiwa province, 1300-1600,” will be held from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts in Los Lunas. Bletzer has worked on archaeological and historical projects in Europe, Central America and, over the last 25 years, at a number of sites in the ancestral Piro and Tiwa provinces.

World’s Largest Matanza

The annual World’s Largest Matanza will include sumptuous, traditional food cooked by 10 teams on Saturday at Eagle Park in Belen.

The annual Hispano Chamber of Valencia County’s “World’s Largest Matanza” will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at Eagle Park, 305 Eagle Lane, in Belen. The annual event includes live music, team matanza competition, public food competition, vendors and a beer garden. The public is welcome to enjoy food from team competitors throughout the day. Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series

Roland Penttila will present, “Little Beaver Town,” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Fred Luna Multi-Generational Center, 197 Don Pasqual, Los Lunas.

Aimee Tang will present, “Chinese Merchants of Albuquerque’s Route 66,” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Isleta Pueblo Cultural Center, 71 Tribal Road 40, Isleta.

Fiddlers and Musicians of New Mexico will perform Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. Music, dancing, snacks and fun! $3 at the door.
