Saturation patrols

The Isleta Police Department will be participating in saturation patrols and DWI checkpoints throughout the months of February and March in various locations and roadway throughout the Pueblo of Isleta. The main focus will be impaired drivers on our roadways and at the checkpoints. Impaired drivers affect everyone and the Isleta Police Department continues to work diligently to make our roadways safe.

Canned food drive

The Belen Fire Department and Belen Area Food Pantry are holding a canned food drive through Saturday, Feb. 28. Bring canned food from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day, at the Belen Fire Department, 121 S. Fifth St., Belen.

FFA Pie Auction

The Belen FFA will hold its annual pie auction Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Belen High School cafeteria. Dinner and viewing begins at 5:30 p.m., and the auction begins at 6:30 p.m. Contact johnsonm@beleneagles.org or call 505-966-1328 for questions.

Valentine’s Day Dance

The Belen Senior Center will be the host of the annual Valentine’s Day Dance from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13. Live music will be provided by Chili Beans Express.

Animal adoption and fundraiser

VBPaw fundraiser and dog adoption event will be held from 12-3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Belen Harvey House Museum, 104 N. First St., Belen.

Fiddlers and Musicians

Fiddlers and Musicians of New Mexico will perform Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. Music, dancing, snacks and fun! $3 at the door.

Scam presentation

A presentation about protecting your wallet and tax season scams to avoid will be held at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Bosque Farms Community Center, 950 N. Bosque Loop. The presentation will highlight some of the most common scams, including IRS impostor scams, how to choose a tax preparer and how to avoid tax scams.

Movie matinee

A movie matinee of “Hidden Figures” will be shown at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Belen Public Library, 333 Becker Ave., Belen.

Daddy Daughter Valentine’s Dinner and Dance

The Rio Communities Optimist Club will hold its second annual Daddy Daughter Valentine’s Dinner and Dance from 5-9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at Tierra del Sol Golf Club, 1000 Golf Course Road, Rio Communities. The event, which is for girls in the third-eighth grades, will include music, dancing, dinner and fun. The cost is $40 per couple and $20 for each additional daughter. Battle of the Brains

Join the Gigantic Hounds of the Southwest (a Sherlock Holmes club) at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Belen Public Library, to test your powers of observation and deductive reasoning, and watch two episodes from the TV series, “Sherlock and Elementary.” There will be a short discussion at this free event.

Fiddlers and Musicians

Fiddlers and Musicians of New Mexico will perform Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. Music, dancing, snacks and fun! $3 at the door.

Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series

Aimee Tang will present, “Chinese Merchants of Albuquerque’s Route 66,” from 1 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Fred Luna Multi-Generational Center, 197 Don Pasqual, Los Lunas.

Richard Ruddy will present, “An Iconic View: Route 66 in Downtown Albuquerque,” from 1 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Isleta Pueblo Cultural Center, 71 Tribal Road 40, Isleta.

Textile Thursday

Join Valencia Community Action Network from 4-8 p.m. every Thursday for Textile Thursday at the Meadow Lake Community Center and unwind with yarn. There’s knitting, crochet, loom weaving, embroidery, amigurumi and more. Bring a project or start a new one. Free instruction and materials offered.
