Police need help to identify suspects
RIO COMMUNITIES — The Valencia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information in regards to a shooting incident in the city of Rio Communities on Saturday, July 27.
At about 5:30 p.m., a man returned to his house on Frederico Boulevard, a street between Golf Course Road and Nancy Lopez Boulevard, in Rio Communities, and found a man in his driveway attempting to steal a motorcycle.
When the homeowner confronted the man, the suspect fled on foot as did a second person driving a red Dodge Durango that was also at the home.
VCSO detective Sgt. Ben Lankasky said shots were fired at the homeowner, who returned fire.
“The individuals were out of frame (of the security camera) so we don’t know who shot at the homeowner, but (the shots) could definitely be heard,” Lankasky said. “To our knowledge, no one sustained injuries during the incident.”
The sheriff’s office is making its best efforts to locate the specific vehicle involved as well as the people in the vehicle, he said.
Anyone with information about the incident, the vehicle, a 2015 or newer red Dodge Durango, or its occupants is asked to call the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office at 505-866-2400 or the Valencia Regional Communications Center, 505-865-9130.
