Truck crashes into Los Lunas Eye Associates of New Mexico building
LOS LUNAS — “We’re just grateful everyone is OK,” said Eye Associates of New Mexico chief executive officer Tony Lenhart at the scene of a crash that destroyed the front entrance of the Los Lunas Eye Associates of New Mexico building.
At around 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, a red truck slammed into the building through what was described by Eye Associate of New Mexico representatives as a “chain reaction” involving eight cars in the parking lot. While people were shaken up, Lenhart said there were no reported injuries.
The manager of the Los Lunas New Mexico Eye Associates location, Yvonne, said thankfully they were not super busy at that time, as it could have been worse.
“I was in the back. I just heard the screeching and screams of the staff and then I came out,” she said. “I saw smoke, tires, debris and a red truck that was backwards inside the building.”
Yvonne said an individual in a truck got stuck over a curb on the east side of the parking lot and he had put the truck in reverse to get it out when he lost control of the vehicle and “took out eight vehicles and ended up pushing one inside the building.”
Eye Associates of New Mexico representative Lee Werner confirmed the business will be closed until further notice, but hopefully not too long.
“We’re going to board it up, get it cleaned up and see how quickly we can get it restored,” he said.
