The recount for two local council races is done and there are no major upsets.

In the village of Los Lunas, the District 3 seat race between Matthew Chavez and Naithan Gurule was subject to a recount, since they were only four votes apart.

After the recount last week, the results stayed the same, with Chavez earning 197 votes and Gurule taking 193.

Incumbent Cruz Munoz ran for re-election and received only 175 votes in the Nov. 3 Regular Local Election.

In the village of Bosque Farms, two candidates were within five votes of each other.

With two open seats up for grabs, Manuel Zamora received 519 votes, taking one of them, while James “Opie” Bruhn and Dolly Wallace received 327 and 322, respectively.

The recount keeps Bruhn at 327 votes and the winner of the second seat.

The two council races were among 34 recounts done across the state this year, and the New Mexico State Canvass Board will meet at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, to certify all the recount results from across the state.

The recount of votes totaled to the same amount the candidates received and the state canvass board certified on Nov. 25.
