VCSO investigating death of infant in Meadow Lake
A 1-month-old infant brought to a Valencia County fire station for medical attention died today.
At 12:31 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, the child was brought to the Meadow Lake Fire Station “by folks seeking medical attention,” said Lt. Joseph Rowland with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office.
Rowland said information is very limited at this time as VCSO detectives and the Office of the Medical Investigator investigate the death.
“Medical services were rendered to the child, but were unsuccessful,” he said.
OMI is on scene now and will issue an official time of death after an analysis is done, Rowland said, adding it’s unclear if the infant was already dead when brought to the station or if the child died after medical aid was given.
“OMI will help our detectives on scene with their investigative efforts,” the lieutenant said. “There was a rumor that a firearm was involved. I can say a firearm was not relevant to the death.”
