VCSO investigating homicide in Adelino

ADELINO — The Valencia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide this morning.

According to VCSO Lt. Joseph Rowland a man brought the female victim to the Adelino Head Start, 2747 N.M. 47, seeking help for her early this morning.

“There were no students at the school when this happened,” Rowland said. “This is an ongoing homicide investigation that will probably take several hours. We will be here through the afternoon.”

Deputies responded to a call of a gunshot victim in the parking lot of the Head Start just after 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 9. When they arrived, they found the woman with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. They began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived, but the woman died at the scene.

Rowland said deputies are investigating leads about where the woman was initially shot before being brought to the school. There are no road closures due to the investigation. The lieutenant said more information will be released as it becomes available.
