VFW Daniel Fernandez Post 9676 invites patriotic members of the community to help carry the large U.S. Flag in the Los Lunas Fourth of July Parade and open house cookout
For many years, the Daniel Fernandez Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9676 members have invited patriotic volunteers to show their patriotism by carrying a huge 30-by-60-foot United States flag down the 2 1/2 mile annual Fourth of July parade route in Los Lunas.
This year, the post members are asking 75-100 volunteers to carry the flag. The VFW is asking volunteers to show up at 8:15 a.m., Thursday, July 4, at the shopping center where the Baskin-Robbins is located.
The public and, especially those helping to carry this large flag, are invited to attend the annual open house cookout at the Daniel D. Fernandez Memorial Park on N.M. 314 immediately after the parade. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, salad dressing, cold slaw, soft drinks and ice-cold watermelon will be served at no cost to the public. The post is located in the yellow-colored restored train depot at the entrance to Daniel D. Fernandez Memorial Park.
The VFW serves between 200 and 300 people at the open house cookout, and it takes many hard-working people to make a project like this a success. If you are interested in attending and in offering your help as a server, please call us and let us know. Everyone’s help will be appreciated.
If you would like to request the use of this flag, call Commander Chet Pino at 505-414-0288, or Post Quartermaster Jack Lovato at 505-550-4076.
