Walmart in Los Lunas recently donated $4,875 to the Los Lunas Police Department to go toward the department’s “Cops and Kids” program.

This program allows LLPD to provide jackets, shoes and Christmas gifts to children in need throughout the community. The funds also go toward purchasing backpacks and school supplies, which are distributed to students during National Night Out.

“It is imperative for businesses to be involved not only in assisting law enforcement by filling in resource gaps for them to carry out their operations, but in serving the community as well,” said Los Lunas Walmart Manager Isac Esquivel, pictured holding the check.

LLPD executive secretary Misty Shiplet said the staff is “super excited” about the donation.

“That amount of money goes far to help our community, and it all stays local which is great,” Shiplet said.
