Thank you, Rio Communities
Editor:
To the residents of our great city: It’s been my honor and privilege to serve you the past four years as a city councilor.
Over four years ago when I was campaigning, I listened to your needs and desires and vision for our city and “thank you” for putting your trust in me.
I have strived over the last four years to work towards your vision for our city along with the other city councilors and our mayor. We have accomplished a great deal and positioned our city for positive future growth.
There are certain people and residents who w3ere key to my election and I would like to recognize some of them. First, I want to thank my wife, Glenda, who gave me her blessing when we discussed my wish to run and I have had her 100 percent support ever since.
I would also like to thank Claudine Montano and Arturo Saiz for their initial support when I shared with them what I was thinking of running for office and for helping me place many yard signs and helped me campaign.
I also owe a big thanks to Geraldine Sanchez and Patricia Houston for helping me canvas the city and knock on doors, helping me spread my message while my wife, Glenda, spent hours behind the wheel driving us around.
And special thanks to Lars and Leslie Helgeson for hosting some of my campaign meetings at their house and always supplied a great spread of hors d’oeuvres, desserts and drinks.
There were many more that I owe a great deal of thanks to — too many to mention but you know who you are.
Last, but not least, I owe a huge thanks to our mayor pro tem, Lawrence Gordon. During our initial meeting, sine we were both running for city council at the time and we shared the same vision for our city, we also campaigned for each other. So Councilor Gordon, thanks, again.
I was also honored to serve with Mayor (Joshua) Ramsell, Lawrence Gordon, Jim Winters, Peggy Gutjahr during my first two years on council and the last two years with our current councilors, Tom Nelson and Matthew Marquez, as well as our entire staff.
I have always believed we all want what is right and best for our city and community but sometimes we have a different approach and ideas on ow to get there.
So I leave my position on city council feeling very optimistic about our future as a city and will remain involved as committee chairman in the construction of our new veterans memorial.
In closing, I wish all of you the best now and in the future.
Arturo Apodaca
