RIO COMMUNITIES — A new season began in March for the Women’s Golf Association at Tierra del Sol Golf Club.

Play days are scheduled from March through November on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Play days consist of Ace Day competitions and Ringer Board statistics, as well as fun tournaments, scrambles, the President’s Cup and Club Championships competitions.

In October of each year, the Fall Frolics takes place. This is a popular tournament that draws competition from around the state.

March play was very limited due to weather issues. On March 5 a scramble was played, followed by a lunch/meeting. First-place winners of the scramble were Berta Murzyn, Fran Griffeth, Jeannie Burleson and Dorothy Lindberg. Second place went to Marilyn Jaramillo, Tammie Fuller and Beverly Turley.

The first Ace Day was on March 12, and the Ladies 9 winner was Anna Martinez. The Ladies 18 Ace Day was played on March 26 and was won by Marilyn Jaramillo. The Saturday Ace winner for the Ladies 18 was Regina Chavez. There were no Ladies 9 competitors.

April play began on April 2 with a scramble, and the monthly luncheon/meeting. The featured event for the month is the Partner’s Best Ball Tournament on April 16. Ace Days are scheduled for April 9 and 26.

With the beginning of a new season, new memberships are being sought. Ladies who are interested should call Edie Redfearn-Moore at 505-864-7015.
