Despite the unsettled hot and rainy August weather, the Women’s Golf Association managed to enjoy a fairly productive month of play.
The meeting day scramble on August 7 was won by the First Gross team of Berta Murzyn, Sandy Watts, Fran Griffeth, and Joanne Romero. Winning First Net was the team of Marilyn Jaramillo, Kathy Burrow, and Dorothy Lindberg.
The Grandma’s Tournament on August 14 was a fun nine-hole competition, with winners selected by a drawing of names at the end of the round rather than by golf scores. Winners were Josanne Cossio, Edie Redfearn-Moore, Marilyn Winters, Griffeth, and Romero.
Ace Day winners for Wednesday, August 21, were Beverly Turley, Ladies 9 and Watts, Ladies 18. The Ladies 18 Saturday Ace Day winner was Winters, with no Ladies 9 players.
Scoring chip-ins for the month were Watts, Griffeth, Jaramillo, Lindberg, and Redfearn-Moore. There was only birdie scored, and that is credited to Watts.
First Gross winner for the Ladies 18 division was Murzyn with 4, and Griffeth with two in the Ladies 9 division. Ladies 18 First Net winners were Redfearn-Moore, Jaramillo, and Winters, with Ladies 9 First Net Winners Turley and Lindberg.
Marilyn Jaramillo won the title of Overall Low Net at the July NM Southwest Golf Association tournament at Cochiti Golf Course.
During the month of September, the Club Championship Tournament will be played for both Ladies 9 and Ladies 18 divisions. A special Pro Am Tournament is scheduled to be played on September 25.
Although it is late in the season, ladies who are interested in joining the WGA are asked to contact Edie Redfearn-Moore at 859-2304.
