Los Lunas
The Los Lunas Tigers baseball squad had a busy week, playing four games — three during the Hobbs tournaments — going 3-1 in those contests.
To begin the week, the Tigers defeated Valencia by a 16-4 final. Karlos Cieremans went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored to lead the way for Los Lunas.
In the first game of the Hobbs’ tournament, the Tigers got by Clovis 8-1. Vlad Olivas had the hot bat, going 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI.
After losing 13-3 to Hobbs on Friday afternoon, the Tigers got their third win of the week on Saturday against Pojoaque Valley by a final of 8-7. Down 7-3 in the fifth inning, the Tigers put together five runs over the final three innings to walk off with the victory.
Los Lunas is now 4-3 on the season and will be in action four more times this week; opening with a home game against Belen before traveling to Las Cruces for a tournament over the weekend.
Valencia
The Jaguars were in action twice last week, posting a win and a loss in those two games.
Early in the week, Valencia struggled against Los Lunas, giving up 7-runs in the first inning to the Tigers, and falling 16-4. Martin Chavez was 1-for-3 with an RBI in the contest.
Valencia was able to bounce back later in the week, taking a game over Sandia Prep by a final of 8-7. This time Chavez used his arm to help the Jags win; going five innings on the mound, striking out six batters, while picking up his first win on the season.
The Jaguars are now 4-1 on the season, and will be in action next down in Las Cruces for the Organ Mountain High School tournament over the weekend.
Belen
The Eagles were also a part of the Hobbs’ tournament over the weekend, and it was a very successful trip for Belen, as they went 3-0.
Opening the tournament, the Eagles got by Santa Fe by a final of 12-7. Kenny Trujillo picked up the victory as the Eagles pitcher in the contest.
In the second game, the Eagles got a win over Pojoaque Valley, 14-5. Belen scored runs in all but one of the seven innings in that contest.
Belen then wrapped up the tournament with a victory over Clovis, by a final of 7-5.
The Eagles sit at 4-2 on the season, and will have three games coming up this week.
First is a trip to take on Los Lunas, then a trip to Volcano Vista before ending the week with a trip to Albuquerque Academy.
Softball
Belen
The Eagles finally got their season going last week, with four contests.
Belen began the week with a 21-6 win over Santa Fe. The Eagles used an 8-run fifth inning to induce the mercy rule in that contest.
The Eagles then fell to Gallup the following night, by a final of 13-1.
That was followed up by a double header against Organ Mountain on the following night. Belen ended up losing both of those games with finals of 16-3 and 15-5.
Belen sits at 1-3 on the early season, and will have a busy week coming up with four games on the schedule.
First is a road trip to Valley, then is a three-game tournament at Las Cruces to end the week.
Los Lunas
The Tigers had a three-game stretch during last week, going 1-2 in those games.
In the win at the beginning of the week, the Tigers got a 10-9 victory over Aztec. Alexxa Torres went 2-for-4 and scored two runs in the contest.
The Tigers then fell to Rio Rancho on Thursday by a final of 13-2. Natalie Madrid was 1-for-3 with a double in the loss.
Los Lunas then ended the week with a 14-3 loss to Sandia. Alexxa Torres was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
The Tigers are 1-3 and will have one game this week, a road game against Del Norte on Thursday night.
Valencia
The Jaguars got their 2022 season underway last week, playing four contests.
Valencia opened the week by hitting yours truly with a foul ball, and ended up losing to Rio Rancho by a final of 16-5. Alexa Gonzales went 3-for-4 with a run scored for VHS.
The Jaguars then traveled to Hobbs for a tournament to end the week, unfortunately going 0-3 during the event.
Valencia lost to Hobbs by a final of 16-0 in the opening contest.
The Jaguars then got close against Pojoaque Valley, losing 10-7, then ended the tournament with a 10-4 loss against Goddard.
Valencia will be in action against Rio Grande this week, with the game being held at VHS.
