Despite ring setback, Kat Lindenmuth continues to move forward
Several days after Katherine Lindenmuth lost her first boxing match since winning the WIBA minimum weight championship, the Bosque Farms fighter was still punching.
“It was a great fight,” Lindenmuth said. “It was a very unnecessary stoppage.”
Lindenmuth (7-5) was miffed that the referee stopped the match in the seventh round, giving Brook Sibrian (8-2) the victory Saturday in San Jacinto, Calif.
Although observers credited Sibrian with controlling the bout, “I definitely was punching back and engaging in the fight,” Lindenmuth said Monday during a phone interview.
“Everybody was cheering. They were enjoying it. We were all pretty upset, very confused,” said Lindenmuth about her teams’ reaction after the fight was stopped.
Lindenmuth, who turned 36-years-old in July, said she was well prepared for Saturday’s showdown, although the fight was only two months after she won the WIBA belt in Thailand.
What the loss will mean to her career, especially a TKO, is unclear, but Lindenmuth is ready to move ahead.
“I still love what I do,” she said. “I still have a lot of stuff on my clipboard for the future.”
Lindenmuth isn’t ready to reveal any details about possible future opponents that are being discussed. In the meantime, she has plenty to do.
“I’ve got stuff with my police career, the kids starting school. Life goes on,” she said. “This is not a turn-back moment — this is a push forward.”
