Eagles dominate as softball season opens

BELEN — Belen was one of the first teams to take the softball diamond, opening last Thursday with an 18-0 victory at home over Pojoaque Valley.

The game was called by mercy rule after two and a half innings. Eagles’ pitcher Lorissa Scott gave up just one hit to the Elkettes.

Saturday, Valencia (1-0) downed Manzano 21-6. Los Lunas begins the season March 4 at Aztec.

Baseball

The baseball season begins Thursday, Feb. 27, with the Valencia Invitational on the VHS campus. Valencia opens the tournament at 10:00 a.m. against Pojoaque, while Belen faces Bernalillo at 5:30 p.m. in the last game of the day.

The other first round contests Thursday include Aztec against Silver, 12:30 p.m. and at 3 p.m., Santa Fe Capital meets Hope Christian. The championship game will be at 3 p.m., Saturday.

The first game for Los Lunas is at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, against Hobbs in the three-day Cleveland Invitational.
