Eagles drop league volleyball opener; VHS, LLHS win

The district volleyball season started Tuesday for Los Lunas, Belen and Valencia.

BHS (11-4, 0-1) opened the District 5-4A campaign at two-time defending 4A state champion and top-ranked St. Pius (10-3, 1-0). The Sartans showed their strength with a convincing 25-14, 25-16, 25-13 over No. 11 BHS. The Eagles host Rio Grande tonight, Thursday.

Also Tuesday in District 5-4A, eighth-ranked VHS (10-4, 1-0) dropped the first set at Grants (7-9, 0-1) but rallied to win 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14. In a showdown on Tuesday, Valencia hosts St. Pius.

At LLHS, the No. 7 Tigers (9-6, 1-0) defeated Atrisco Heritage Academy (5-11, 0-1) 25-15, 25-18, 25-13 in District 5-5A. Tuesday, Los Lunas is at Rio Grande.
