RIO COMMUNITIES — Highlighting the month of October for the Women’s Golf Association was the annual Fall Frolics Tournament on Monday, Oct. 21.

There were eight, out-of-town teams and four local teams competing. Several local teams achieved success, led by the team of Berta Murzyn, Kathryn Bayless, Regina Chavez and Julie Marquez, who scored the Best Net score over the entire field of players.

The team of Jennifer Montano, Berna Jaramillo, Becca Gallegos and Shannelle Tafoya won First Gross in the second flight. Murzyn, Bayless, Chavez and Marquez scored First Net in the second flight, with Marilyn Jaramillo, Sandy Watts, Marla Wersonick and Lina Castillo taking Second Net in that flight.

Special achievements by local players in the tournament included Longest Drive in the 21-30 Handicap Division by Montano, and Closest to the Pin in the 31-40 Handicap Division by Fuller.

The month opened with the meeting day scramble on Oct. 2, followed by its meeting and lunch. Winning the scramble was the team of Murzyn, Fran Griffeth, Rebecca Gallegos and Joanne Romero. Second place went to Edie Redfearn-Moore, Fuller, Anna Martinez and Beverly Turley.

Throughout the month, birdies were made by Paula Valdez and Jaramillo with one each and Murzyn with three. One chip-in was scored by Murzyn and one by Redfearn-Moore. Murzyn had three Low Gross tallies, with Bayless scoring one. Fuller had one Low Net score, and Jaramillo had three.

A make-up round for the September Saturday Ace Day competition was played on Oct. 12. Ladies 18 winner was Chavez. There were no Ladies 9 players.

Congratulations go to Murzyn, who broke 80 for the first time at Tierra Del Sol Golf Club.

Regular play days on Wednesdays and Saturdays are scheduled for November, and the annual Turkey Shoot is on Nov. 20.
