High school district soccer schedule underway

The district soccer schedule in New Mexico began this week, with teams from Valencia, Belen and Los Lunas taking to the pitch.
Tuesday in District 5-4A, VHS swept Grants on the road. In girls action, the Jaguars (1-11, 1-0) broke into the win column as AveMarie Burkhard scored twice in a 2-1 victory. The VHS boys (5-5, 1-0) scored three second half goals to win 3-1. St. Pius hosted BHS, with the Eagles (2-8, 0-1) falling 11-0 in the girls game and 10-0 in the boys (2-10, 0-1) contest.
On Wednesday, the LLHS boys (1-10, 0-1) lost to Rio Grande 11-1 while Los Lunas (5-6-1, 1-0) dominated the Ravens 10-0 in District 5-5A girls action.
Volleyball
The district volleyball season is still several weeks away. In a non-league game Tuesday at Santa Teresa, LLHS (6-5) won 25-18, 25-17, 25-13.
VHS (8-3) hosts Valley Thursday. Upcoming games for BHS (8-2) include Thursday at Pojoaque Valley and Saturday at home against West Mesa.
