District basketball tournaments started this week, as the Valencia (21-7) girls, in white, defeated Belen (8-19), 50-39, in District 5-4A. With an almost unbelievable score, Los Lunas (22-5) downed Atrisco Heritage 82-4 in District 5-5A. In boys’ action, Los Lunas (6-20) lost 64-61 at West Mesa, while Valencia (9-17) fell 80-59 at Highland. Belen (12-15) defeated Grants 71-63 in two overtimes to set up a Wednesday meeting at Highland, a game the Eagles lost 84-56. Sunday, brackets for the state tournament will be announced.
