Red vs. Green baseball has local flavor

Belen’s Christian Wilson was named All-Metro first team and was selected for the Red vs. Green All-Star Classic June 6-8 in Las Cruces.

Two Belen baseball players and a Los Lunas softball standout were selected for All-Metro teams.

The Eagles’ Christian Wilson, senior, was named to the first team as designated hitter after batting .520 with five home runs during the 2024 season. Wilson was also the Eagles’ top pitcher. BHS teammate Brysen Soiles, senior, was selected as the catcher of the second team.

In softball, Natalie Madrid, Los Lunas, is a first-team all-metro selection at first base. Madrid, sophomore, knocked in 45 runs while ripping the ball at a .571 clip.

Wilson, Soiles and Valencia outfielder Eliseo Ramirez were recently selected to play on the green team for the Bob Ogas Red vs. Green All-Star Classic, June 6-8, at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces.

Belen’s Tom Wisneski, who recently announced his retirement, will be head coach of the Green team. The Classic, featuring New Mexico’s top graduating seniors, will have a series of three games.

In addition to All-Star and All-Metro selections, area schools are well represented on All-District baseball teams.

Los Lunas

JJ Utash, who pitched and played infield for LLHS, was selected as the District 5-5A Co-Player of the Year, while Paul Cieremans is Coach of the Year.

In addition to Utash, other Tigers named to the first team were Matthew Castillo, shortstop; Fabian Trujillo, outfielder; and Kaiden Reese, pitcher. Second team selections included James Utash, catcher/designated hitter; and Jasiah Byers, first base.

Honorable mention included Jonah Utash, utility. All Academic are Castillo and James Utash.

Valencia’s Eliseo Ramirez, in the red helmet, will play in the Red vs. Green All-Star Classic, and was selected Co-Player of the Year in District 5-4A.

Valencia

In District 5-4A, with no designation for positions, the Jaguars Eliseo Ramirez was named Co-Player of the Year and first team. Second team included Brady Hoefler, Zaylon Zamora and Jacob Apodaca. All District Academic Team members include Ramirez, Apodaca, Zamora, Xzaviar Martinez and Jacob Montoya.

Belen

Also in District 5-4A, Belen was represented by first team selections Isaiah Vargas, Christian Wilson, Angel Garcia and Brysen Soiles. Second team, Frankie Rocha, Damien Avila, Jesse Aragon, Josh Montoya and Logan Gonzalez. All Academic, Wilson, Soiles, Jaden Ferral, Vargas and Aragon.
