Red vs. Green baseball has local flavor
Two Belen baseball players and a Los Lunas softball standout were selected for All-Metro teams.
The Eagles’ Christian Wilson, senior, was named to the first team as designated hitter after batting .520 with five home runs during the 2024 season. Wilson was also the Eagles’ top pitcher. BHS teammate Brysen Soiles, senior, was selected as the catcher of the second team.
In softball, Natalie Madrid, Los Lunas, is a first-team all-metro selection at first base. Madrid, sophomore, knocked in 45 runs while ripping the ball at a .571 clip.
Wilson, Soiles and Valencia outfielder Eliseo Ramirez were recently selected to play on the green team for the Bob Ogas Red vs. Green All-Star Classic, June 6-8, at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces.
Belen’s Tom Wisneski, who recently announced his retirement, will be head coach of the Green team. The Classic, featuring New Mexico’s top graduating seniors, will have a series of three games.
