Tough Tuesday on the pitch for local teams

Los Lunas, in blue, was unable to hold a second-half lead Tuesday, falling to Roswell 3-2 in girls soccer.

The high school soccer season is into a second week of action in Valencia County, and Tuesday was challenging for area squads.

The Los Lunas girls hosted Roswell, falling 3-2 as the Coyotes scored two unanswered second half goals. LLHS (1-3) posted a 1-2 record at the Aztec tournament.

In other girls play, Valencia (0-3) lost 10-0 at Roswell Goddard Tuesday. The Jaguars seek their first win Saturday at home against Las Vegas Robertson.

Belen (0-2) lost a defensive battle Tuesday at West Las Vegas, falling 2-0. The Eagles are at Moriarty Thursday. The Pintos knocked BHS out of the playoffs last season.

On the boys’ side Tuesday, the Eagles (1-1) lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at West Las Vegas. BHS returns to action Thursday at Moriarty. Marco Guzman’s goal lifted Belen past Gallup 1-0 last week.

4A Valencia (1-2) was at 5A Centennial Tuesday, losing 5-0. Saturday, VHS hosts Miyamura. Los Lunas, which opens play Friday in a Los Alamos tournament, is 0-3 after an 8-1 setback Monday at Las Cruces Mayfield.
