TOMÉ — It may be difficult to come home on weekends or Thanksgiving break, but defensive end Aiden Gonzalez, of Valencia, is eager to start his college football career at Virginia University of Lynchburg.

Gonzalez has committed to make the 1,731 mile journey, swapping his VHS Jaguars gear for that of the VUL Dragons.

“I’m feeling great, really excited to keep my athletic career going,” Gonzalez said following a ceremony at VHS.

A highlight reel was viewed on social media by VUL coaches, who reached out to Gonzalez.

“They liked how I kept playing continuously, making big plays,” he said.

VUL is affiliated with the National Christian College Athletic Association, and is a historically Black College and University (HBCU).

“It’s very nerve-wracking but I’m ready for it,” Gonzalez said about going so far away. “I’m ready to get out of New Mexico and experience new things.”

Gonzalez is undecided about a field of study, but sports management is a possibility.
