Los Lunas Schools to host senior graduation ceremonies on Monday, May 19
LOS LUNAS—Los Lunas Schools recently announced that high school graduation ceremonies for the class of 2025 will be taking place on Monday, May 19.
LLS marketing and media specialist Sidney Olivas said May 19 ended up being the best date for all three high schools. The ceremonies will take place at the University of New Mexico Pit where they have usually been hosted in years past.
“We were offered (a date) earlier than the 19th, but it was going to interfere with the senior check-out dates, AP exams and some other events they need to finish out the school year,” Olivas said. “Also, with UNM’s calendar and their commencement ceremony, May 19 was the best day.”
Olivas said the weekend after also wouldn’t work due to the university’s schedule for the Pit and, to her knowledge, no local venues were considered as she did not hear in their meeting about any other possible venues.
“We understand that holding the ceremonies on a Monday is a change for our school district community and want to provide commencement information in a timely manner so that our graduates and their families can prepare for this momentous occasion,” LLS Acting Superintendent Susan Chavez said in a press release. “Many factors were considered when selecting this date including the end of the school year, available dates given to the district by UNM, and senior class end of the year activities. We look forward to celebrating our seniors on May 19th.”
The release noted that further details regarding the graduation ceremony, including parking information, will be provided as the date approaches. To stay up to date, the district recommends looking to Remind notifications, the district’s social media platforms and website, llschools.net, for updates.
