“Our youth’s efforts are crucial to the appreciation and understanding of agriculture in the generations to come,” said Roy Farr, NMCGA Southwest Regional vice president.

Last week’s winners include Kelly Tucker (Mora), Trevor Saulsberry (Catron) and Kathryn Gibson (Valencia).

To be eligible for the Heritage Buckle award, youth ages 9-15 were asked to write a 200-500 word essay on what new tradition they would like to implement in today’s agriculture industry.

“Making self-care a priority among agriculturalists. This can improve the overall health and well-being for those that provide what we eat and wear,” wrote Gibson, who is the daughter of Todd and Callie Gibson, of Belen.
